Abidjan, April 6, 2024 – This Saturday, a call for exemplary citizenship echoed across Ivory Coast. 150 students who completed the “Citizen Journey” program at the Dabou Teacher Training Center (CAFOP) were urged to become role models within their communities by Kouadio Kouamé Dénis, representative of the Dabou prefect. These students, from the regional directorates of Dabou, Abidjan 3, and Abidjan 4, joined 350 fellow graduates at the Lycée Jeunes Filles de Bouaké for their graduation ceremony.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Ivorian Leaders
The "Citizen Journey" is a key initiative aimed at strengthening civic engagement among Ivorian youth. During this second edition of the program, held from March 28 to April 6, 2024, a total of 500 young volunteers aged 14 to 17 underwent intensive training focused on civic responsibility and ethical behavior.
"My dear young people, we count on you to lead by example. Be the change in your schools and communities," prefect Kouadio Kouamé Dénis exhorted the Dabou graduates.
Cynthia Koffi, head of CAFOP Dabou, explained the "Citizen Journey" is an integral part of the National Youth Service (SNJ). It takes place during school breaks in dedicated civic service centers and aims to cultivate a deep sense of civic duty in students through discipline, educational activities, and a spirit of fun. The program also instills the importance of volunteering for the betterment of Ivorian society.
The Transformative Power of the "Citizen Journey"
Over ten days, students learned skills beyond the classroom – saluting the flag, military drills, solidarity, first aid, and a commitment to good citizenship. Modules on preventing school dropout, drug use, and youth violence reinforced the link between good character and academic success.
Student Noura Coulibaly expressed immense gratitude to Mamadou Touré, Minister of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service (MPJIPSC), for this enriching experience. "Thank you! We received so much – shelter, meals, care, and above all, training that has changed us deeply," she stated.

The "Citizen Journey," spearheaded by the MPJIPSC's National Civic Service Office (OSCN), reflects the nation's dedication to empowering its youth. It's clear: the future of Ivory Coast rests in the hands of young citizens who are passionate about building a society where civic values and service to others take center stage.
